EXILE & Makeshift aka King Choosey VS. Daft Punk (2013 Video)

[sz-youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwNgEwrrfog&feature=youtu.be” /]

Two masters of their respective crafts, Choosey and Exile get down on this grass roots-vibe video wherein Makeshift raps in the vein of his name and utilizes the 2-way diaphragm of over-ear headphones and raps into them as Ex gets down on his MPC 2000XL.  I have been screaming at the top of my metaphorical lungs, telling any and all who will listen that Exile producing your “this is me” album is a guaranteed success, which can be seen with Blu’s Below the Heavens and Fashawn’s Boy Meets World  – as soon as I caught wind of Shifty’s affiliation with the Dirty Science crew (at the Ghostface/Adrian Younge 12 Reasons to Die show in LA – reviewed HERE) I started telling people that an Exile produced Choosey LP would be phenomenal – an instant classic. So, relax on this wonderful Saturday afternoon (or whenever you find yourself reading this) and catch the chemistry between these two Dirty Scientists.

Grieves | Boogie Man (2011 Video)

[sz-youtube url=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY5h74toqC4″ /] Not too sure how we missed this gem off of Grieves and Budo’s Together/Apart a couple of years ago. This video is like The Brothers Grimm meets Where the Wild Things Are meets the mind of Grieves. Truly an artistic take on a hip hop music video given the very blase nature of most hip hop video production. If you would like a great read on the entire Together/Apart album, click HERE. Swerve | Inhale, Exhell. (2013 EP)

Very few emcees work as hard as Swerve. This guy has been pumping out quality albums, ep’s and mixtapes, both alone and teamed up with his affiliate/collaborator SYG – check out our coverage of his/their hustle HERE. With Inhale, Exhell, Swerve continues his stream of blue-collar, working-class, grown-ass-man hip hop and refuses to let his eager listeners down. The intro is fitting and is comfortable for longtime Swerve fans and sets the ball on the tee for both Swerve and Ridla to hit the first track, Break Bread, out of the park. BB sets the hungry, lyricism-centric, tone, which is effortlessly carried out for the entirety of the EP. Swerve has mastered his delivery, both in vocal quality and cadence, and effectually enhanced his confidence (not that he needed to), which demands that he be taken seriously. The entire EP is worth multiple listens. Listen. Enjoy. Share.

Aaron Evans | We All Work – Some Just Harder Than Others (2013 Interview)

There is something to be said for artists who find a balance between the left and right brain, learning to hone and deliver outrageous creativity with the rhythm and urgency of a Type-A CEO. Ohio emcee (among a long list of other crafts), Aaron Evans, has learned this delicate balance, and is now bearing the fruit of such in unexpected ways. Continue reading

Blame One & J57 | How Much Time’s Left feat. Akie Bermiss (2013 Audio)

Soulspazm Records drops another gem on their Soundcloud page – Blame One & J57’s How Much Time’s Left feat. Akie Bermiss. This emcee/producer super-duo is releasing nothing other than feel-good, soul-stirring hip hop that anyone can enjoy. I pray that one day the youth see the wisdom at their disposal in the words and music of hip hop elders like Blame One and J57 – grown man music here. This track sits right in the pocket of the other two Walk in the Sun singles released so far and is another real life glimpse into the mind of Blame, with an emphasis on the concept of time – a few focused listens is time well spent, both the lyrics and the beautiful soundscape provided by J57. Listen. Enjoy. Share.

Peace and Love,

NathanAnthony

*I was sleeping for a minute, but here is the second single from Blame & J’s Walk in the Sun slated to drop this month!
