Planet Asia is one of the freshest emcees, and maybe one of the most underrated, the West Coast has to offer. Maintaining a West Coast flow and an underground tone, this dude has been a force to reckon with for years. I first became familiar with him via a Cali Agents How the West Was One Snippets tape circa 2000, and I was late then. One of my favorite tracks featuring Asia is Zion I’s Critical off of their Mind Over Matter album, released in 2000 as well. Enough about the past, Asia’s most recent offering, Black Belt Theatre, is where Golden State is housed and seems to sit nicely in the boom bap subcategory of hip hop. Planet Asia describes “life in the golden state” with a 70’s game show feel visually. Enjoy.
Peace and Love,
