So far here at SAC we have been able to avoid personal, political and social commentary. This has not been a conscious part of our agenda, but rather the identity structuring, organic beginnings of a fledgling blog. We will not shy from these issues because the art of hip-hop that we represent has never taken a back seat to the social climate of the world. On the contrary, hip hop has aggressively, intelligently, strategically and at unfortunate times ignorantly placed itself in the discourse. We’ve heard rhymes about issues ranging from the 80’s crack epidemic to the Obama campaign, to the most recent Trayvon Martin killing. We however, have the beautiful luxury of being able to let the music speak the muted revolutions that sometimes become just thoughts. So with that said, in this video, Yasiin Bey, Dead Prez, and Mike Flo go in on the “Made You Look” Nas beat, in order to provide commentary about what has become a prevalent happening in not just hip hop, or the black community but in the United States at large. It is our responsibility at SAC to provide you options and continue to Basquiat the music where it has been, where it is going and where it is today.
